Team members from California RDO Equipment Co. stores participated in the 7th annual Saluting Branches Day of Service.
Saluting Branches is a nonprofit organization of arborists honoring American veterans. During the nationwide Day of Service, tree care companies, arborists, and other industry professionals volunteer time to tend trees and other vegetation at veteran’s cemeteries around the country.
Participation has become somewhat of a tradition for team members in the Los Angeles region, led in part by Kelly Maes, Regional Sales Manager and Marine Corps veteran. Kelly, whose son is also a Marine, is strong supporter of other military families and rarely turns down an opportunity to get involved in such efforts.
“It gives me good feeling that we participate in this type of stuff,” he said of the Day of Service.
This year, volunteers converged for a day of grounds-tending at Los Angeles National Cemetery. Kelly, Rancho Dominguez Store Manager Ruben Valenzuela, Regional Aftermarket Manager Colby Gergovich, Account Manager Justin Pratt, Product Specialist Hugo Leon, and Parts Specialist Seth I’Anson brought a trailer full of parts and provided lunch for customers, representatives from Vermeer, and other volunteers. The group was also honored to be joined for the meal by the director and staff of the national cemetery.
For Kelly, the Saluting Branches event is a yearly source of pride in both his and his family’s military heritage and the employer that helps him honor it in ways like this.
“I’m so proud to work for a company that backs the community in this way,” he said. “It’s an amazing feeling to know we’re supported in causes like this that mean something in our communities and to us personally.”
