When Office Administrator Sandi Carubie reflects on her childhood, stories of her grandfather’s work in the construction industry are among her favorite memories. From stories about paving the runways at the local military airstrip with a team of horses in the 1920s to the construction of the same city she now calls home, carrying on the family tradition of working with equipment is one of her many passions.
Therefore, when Carubie had the opportunity to join Honnen Equipment as a temp employee in 2003, she jumped at the chance. Although her position was supposed to be short-term, Carubie immediately felt at home within the Casper, Wyoming store and team.
Over the last 20 years, this feeling hasn’t changed, and although Honnen Equipment is now RDO Equipment Co., the Casper store remains a close-knit family that knows how to work hard and play hard.
From planning yearly competitive chili cook-offs and summer barbeques to organizing good-natured gift-giving during holidays, Carubie is proud to help the Casper team members feel at home within the store, just as she felt early on.
As an Office Administrator, having a close-knit team helps Carubie better understand the needs of each department and how best to be a resource as she acts as a liaison between customers and team members.
Whether it be answering questions over the phone, helping the parts team with inventory or greeting customers, Carubie is known to handle any issue thrown her way
However, Carubie’s expanse of knowledge didn’t come easily. Over the years, she has dedicated herself to learning the ins and outs of the industry, especially as technology continues to develop at a rapid pace.
“It’s not just shifts from steering wheels to joysticks in machinery that has changed over the last 20 years,” explained Carubie. “It’s also service manuals being digital instead of paper and just how big the scope of construction projects are now.”
And, as the Casper team continues to transition into RDO, Carubie’s dedication to learning and adjusting is paying dividends as she supports her team through the change.
“RDO has been a great place to work so far, and I appreciate the willingness of those throughout the company to offer help as we transition,” said Carubie. “I’m looking forward to many new opportunities and to continue growing in my career.”
With her commitment to carrying on her family’s traditions in the construction industry fulfilled, Carubie now looks to help the tradition continue. Her grandson is interested in following in her footsteps much like Carubie followed her grandfather's.
Carubie’s story stretches back generations, from constructing roads with a team of horses to digital service manuals. With any luck, and a level of dedication that members of her family are known for, her story will reach into many generations to come, too.
