Members of the Aberdeen RDO Equipment Co. team talked safety with youngsters at the recent Brown County Farmers Union Camp.
The annual event is open to children ages 6-13 and is held at the local fairgrounds, where area businesses gather to share information and demonstrations on a variety of topics, safety chief among them.
Safety stations at this year’s camp included ones focused on proper ATV use, livestock safety, and electricity and grain bin safety.
Terry Lacher, Product Specialist Supervisor; Dustin Stieha, Lead Service Manager; and Char Andres, Parts Specialist, represented RDO this year, hosting a station for ag and snow equipment safety, along with handling chemicals safely.
This camp began several years ago following a tragic farm accident in the Aberdeen community, and Terry, who has participated in the event for many years, said talking about safety is always valuable.
“Safety should always be the highest concern on and around the farm,” he said. “Anything we can do to create awareness to prevent even one child from having an accident is priceless.”
It is an opportunity to make connections, too. Terry said he regularly meets customers’ children at the event and enjoys not only hearing about their experiences but future chances to visit with them about the lessons from camp.
