Construction Update: New RDO Equipment Co. Store in Dayton, MN

Construction Update: New RDO Equipment Co. Store in Dayton, MN

22 Aug 2019 Read time: 3 min

In January 2019, RDO Equipment Co. made an exciting announcement. To better meet customer demand and demonstrate its commitment to customers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, RDO shared its plans for a new, full-service store in Dayton, adjacent to Interstate 94 and the 610 interchange.

While construction was already underway at that time, significant progress was made throughout the early part of the year and continued into the summer months. But it’s not always easy to see what’s going on, even for those who drive by the new store every day. Find out what’s going on at the site of RDO’s newest store in this construction update.

Earlier this summer, the crew began the foundation work for the front low roof office/showroom area while also finishing up some of the site work. Additional work including light pole staking and base pouring, storm drain inlets, and pouring the site entrance apron were also completed.

Continuing this month, site work in progress includes irrigation rough-ins, backfill foundations, fine grading, and paving. August milestones also include significant work on the building, including form and pour for footings and foundation walls, pre-engineered metal building steel erection, and conventional framed steel erection.

According to John Weber, General Manager of RDO’s construction and parts stores in the Twin Cities metro area, there’s a lot of energy surrounding the project right now – both in terms of the building itself, as well as the team being built to support Dayton’s customers.

“We are starting to see great progress in the building with the foundation now in place and the steel coming this week,” he said. “We have also started building the foundation of our team that will support customers on the north side of the metro. The team will continue to grow as the building takes shape and that makes this an exciting time.”

Planned to be 45,000 total square feet, the Dayton store will be RDO’s largest construction-focused store in Minnesota. The store’s design will allow the RDO team to better meet the business needs of customers for all three of its major manufacturing partners, Vermeer, Topcon, and John Deere, something that will benefit numerous customers, according to Vice President of RDO’s Midwest construction region, Kelly Gress.

“We have several customers who do business with more than just one manufacturer’s equipment,” he said. “The Dayton store is going to allow us to house all three of our key manufacturing partners’ equipment, as well as provide parts and service, all from one convenient location.”

The Dayton store is scheduled to open in the summer of 2020. Watch for more construction updates and follow RDO on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter to see additional photos, videos, and special progress news.
